The principle of salt electrolysis is simple. Pool water is slightly salty (2 to 4 g/L, 9 to 18 times less than sea water). By an electrolysis reaction in the cell of the system, chloride ions from salt dissolved in water are converted into chlorine gas, a powerful disinfectant that dissolves in water instantly. The resulting active chlorine (HOCl) destroys all microorganisms in the cell and provides sufficient free chlorine in the pool. This active chlorine, which is destroyed by the sun's UV rays and organic substances in the pool, is constantly renewed by the cell without requiring any action by the user.
